Hays County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are working together to plan for a new alignment of FM 2001 that would eliminate the sharp curve at Windy Hill Road, improving safety and sight distance.
The County and TxDOT have worked together to identify, design, and construct improvements along several segments of FM 2001. In 2020, TxDOT completed the schematic design and environmental assessment for FM 2001 from I-35 to SH 21. This project ties into the FM 2001 West Project to the north, which included a new alignment from Sunbright Boulevard to north of Satterwhite Road and was completed and opened to traffic in 2022.
The current phase of the project includes right-of-way (ROW) acquisition for this segment of FM 2001. Utility coordination and construction are not currently funded.

RIGHT OF WAY
Because the roadway will follow a new alignment, this project will require additional ROW to construct improvements. The County is coordinating with property owners for needed ROW.
TxDOT MAINTENANCE WORK
TxDOT will be working to smooth out FM 2001 from Satterwhite Road to SH 21. By this fall, a new riding surface will be installed on the road to improve road conditions for drivers in the area.
