Hays County, in partnership with the City of Kyle and TxDOT, is planning improvements to enhance safety, improve mobility, and increase traffic capacity along Windy Hill Road. The existing roadway currently has one lane in each direction with no shoulders or turn lanes.
Previous phases of the project and public engagement included an interim three-lane roadway design (one-lane in each direction with a center-turn lane) with a phased approach to eventually widen the roadway to five lanes (two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane) as traffic demands increase and funding becomes available.
Due to significant growth and new residential developments around Windy Hill, the County is moving forward with the design of a five-lane configuration to accommodate this continued growth and minimize disruptions to the community for multiple construction projects.
