Hays County is advancing the final design for a new roadway that extends Yarrington Road from the existing RM 150, west of Arroyo Ranch, to I-35. This project is intended to add capacity, enhance safety, improve connectivity, and provide an alternative to RM 150 as the region grows.
The County first began studying improvements to RM 150 in 2014, evaluating a range of alternatives, including expanding the existing roadway and potential new alignments. This process included analysis of environmental impacts, natural and cultural resources such as floodplains, water quality, historical properties, and endangered and threatened species, as well as coordination with property owners and a robust public engagement process. A preferred route was identified, and schematic design was completed in 2024.
Hays County is using a phased approach deliver near-term transportation relief through an interim design, while planning for the ultimate four-lane roadway footprint now. Utilities, drainage, and right-of-way (ROW) needs are being designed now to accommodate the future buildout.
