Hays County, in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), is planning a new alignment of FM 2001 to enhance safety and connectivity in this rapidly growing area.

The County and TxDOT have worked together to identify, design, and construct improvements along several segments of FM 2001. In 2020, TxDOT completed the schematic design and environmental assessment for a new alignment of FM 2001 from I-35 to SH 21. This section of the roadway would ultimately consist of two lanes in each direction, divided by a median, and sidewalks on both sides. These long-term improvements are intended to support future transportation needs and would only be constructed as growth necessitates and funding becomes available.

The current phase of the project focuses on completing design plans to address existing transportation needs by constructing one lane in each direction separated by a median. Coordination with property owners and utility providers is also included in this phase of the project. Construction is not currently funded.
COST: $1.7M
